"Finding My Sauti": The Journey of Our 2025 Challenge Winner

By The Sauti.Market Team | Published on July 18, 2025

In a nation brimming with undiscovered talent, the Sauti Challenge stands as a beacon for young artists. This year, one voice rose above the rest—a voice that tells a story of passion, perseverance, and the power of finding your platform. We sat down with Meherleen S. Abas, the grand prize winner of the Sauti Challenge 2025, to delve into her journey from a quiet observer to a national sensation.

From a Small Town to the National Stage

Meherleen, a 19-year-old from the heart of Tanzania, shared her humble beginnings. "I always loved to sing, but it was just for myself, or maybe for a few friends at a local gathering," she recounts. "The idea of performing in front of judges, let alone a national audience, felt like a distant dream." It was her younger brother who convinced her to submit an entry to the Sauti Challenge after seeing the online promotions. "He showed me a poster on Instagram, and he told me, 'This is not just for music, this is for your voice.' That's when I knew I had to try."

More Than Just a Competition

The Sauti Challenge isn't just about winning. According to Meherleen, the real prize was the experience itself. "The mentorship sessions were life-changing. We learned about vocal techniques, but also about financial literacy—how to manage prize money, how to invest in our future, and how to see our talent as a real business." These insights, she believes, are what truly empower young people.

"The Sauti Challenge showed me that my voice is not just for singing. It's a tool for opportunity, a way to build a future for myself and my family."

What's Next for Meherleen?

With the prize money, Meherleen plans to record her first album and start a small business. She also hopes to become a mentor for the next generation of Sauti.Market contestants. Her advice to other aspiring artists is simple: "Your voice is your most powerful tool. Don't be afraid to use it. The Sauti.Market platform is a safe space to grow, learn, and be heard."
